Common use

Pradaxa (dabigatran) is prescribed to prevent stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. It is also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and to prevent their recurrence. Pradaxa works as a direct thrombin inhibitor, helping to prevent harmful blood clot formation.

Dosage and direction

Pradaxa is taken orally, usually twice daily, with or without food. Capsules must be swallowed whole—do not open, crush, or chew them. Dosage depends on kidney function, age, and treatment purpose. Follow your healthcare provider’s exact dosing instructions.

Precautions

Before taking Pradaxa, inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, bleeding disorders, stomach ulcers, recent surgery, or use other anticoagulants. Because it increases bleeding risk, avoid activities that may cause injury. Notify healthcare providers before medical or dental procedures.

Contraindications

Do not use Pradaxa if you have active pathological bleeding, severe kidney impairment, or an allergy to dabigatran. It is also contraindicated in patients with mechanical heart valves.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include indigestion, stomach pain, minor bleeding (nosebleeds, bruising), and heartburn. Serious side effects may include major bleeding, coughing or vomiting blood, black stools, sudden weakness, or severe headache. Seek immediate medical attention if signs of serious bleeding occur.

Drug interaction

Pradaxa may interact with other anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, NSAIDs, certain antibiotics, antifungals, and medications that affect kidney function. Always inform your doctor of all prescription drugs, OTC medications, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless the next dose is less than 6 hours away. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose can cause severe or life-threatening bleeding. Seek emergency medical attention immediately. A reversal agent (idarucizumab) may be used in emergency situations.

Storage

Store Pradaxa at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep capsules in the original container with the lid tightly closed; do not place them in pill organizers. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

I prefer to call when I have questions but to use online chat is also helpful. I have already purchased goods on-line from other companies but was scared to buy drugs. Who knows what they can put in the parcel? When my package arrived I could not understand ...
