Common use

Azuflidine is a salicylate. Azulfidine is used to treat ulcerative colitis decreasing inflammation. Also it can be used to increased the time between attacks of ulcerative colitis.



Dosage and directions

Use Azuflidine as prescribed by your doctor. Take it with food and a full glass of water. It is recommended to drink extra fluids while you are taking Azuflidine. Also or is recommended to space your dose more than 8 hours apart. Continue to take the medicine if you fell well. Do not miss any dose.



Precautions

Before take Azuflidine discuss with your doctor if you pregnant or breast-feeding, if you take any prescribed or no prescribed medicine, herbal product or dietary supplement, if you have any allergy to food, medicine, and other substances, if you ave liver or kidney problems, asthma, severe allergies, blood problems (anemia, low white blood cell levels) or rheumatoid arthritis, if you have glucose -6- phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, if you have an infection.



Contraindications

You cannot use Azulfidine if you have allergy to any ingredient of the medicine, salicylates (aspirin) or sulfonamide (sulthamethoxazole), if you have blood disorder porphyria, or a stomach, bowel, or urinary tract blockage, you have folate deficiency anemia.



Possible side effects

the most common side effects are headache, loss of appetite, mild stomach upset or pain, nausea, vomiting. Severe side effects include severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); bloody diarrhea; bluish discoloration of the skin or nails; chest pain; dark urine; decreased urination; fever, chills, or sore throat; hearing loss; mental or mood changes; muscle pain; numbness or tingling in the fingers or toes; pale stools; persistent loss of appetite; pinpoint bruises; red, swollen, peeling, or blistered skin; seizures; severe or persistent dizziness, drowsiness, headache, or trouble sleeping; severe or persistent stomach pain; shortness of breath; trouble walking; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness or weakness; unusually pale skin; yellowing of the eyes; yellowing of the skin along with dark urine, pale stools, or persistent loss of appetite.



Drug interaction

Tell your doctor about all prescribed and no prescribed medications and especially about anticoagulants (eg, warfarin) or methotrexate because the risk of their side effects may be increased by Azulfidine; beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), digoxin, or folic acid because their effectiveness may be decreased by Azulfidine; methenamine because the risk of crystals in the urine may be increased



Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Azulfidine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.



Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include seizures; severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting; unusual or severe drowsiness. Get in touch with your doctor immediately if you suspect overdose.



Storage

Keep at the temperature between 59–86F (15–30 C), away from heat, moisture, light and children.
