Common use

Ponstel is a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug which is used to relief moderate pain in particular one caused by periods in women.



Dosage and direction

Take Ponstel with food or antacid, or a full glass of water if this medication upsets your stomach.



Precautions

Ulcers or internal bleeding can occur without warning while using this drug so consult your doctor on a regular basis for check-ups. Inform your doctor if you had in history such conditions: heart attack, angina (chest pain), liver disease, kidney disease, psychiatric illness, circulation problems in the fingers during cold weather.



Contraindications

Ponstel cannot be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to mefenamic acid, for the treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, asthma, urticaria, active ulceration or chronic inflammation of gastrointestinal tract.



Possible side effect

Main side effect caused by this medication is drowsiness. Other symptoms may include: stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, lightheadedness, insomnia, nasal congestion. If you experience symptoms listed above consult your doctor, maybe you will need stop taking of this medication.



Drug interaction

This medication interacts with aspirin, methotrexate, ACE inhibitors, reduces effects of furosemide, antacids, increases plasma levels of Lithium. Additive effects of Ponstel and warfarin have also been reported.



Missed dose

Take the dose you missed as soon as you remember. If it is almost time of your next intake just skip it and return to your regular schedule.



Overdose

If you suspect that you took too much of the medication seek for immediate medical attention and drink glass of milk. Possible overdose symptoms include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain. Increase in blood pressure, acute renal failure, difficulty breathing and coma may occur, but are rare.



Storage

Store Ponstel in a dry tight container away from sunlight at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F) away from children and pets.
