Common use

Cutivate (fluticasone propionate) is prescribed to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and allergic skin reactions. It reduces swelling, redness, and itching by suppressing the inflammatory response in the skin. Cutivate is available on the market in a 20 g tube.

Dosage and direction

Apply a thin layer of Cutivate to the affected area once or twice daily, as directed by your healthcare provider. Gently rub the medication into the skin. Do not apply to the face, groin, or underarms unless instructed by a doctor. Avoid covering the area with tight dressings unless specifically advised.

Precautions

Before using Cutivate, inform your doctor if you have skin infections, rosacea, acne, or poor circulation. Use with caution on large skin areas or for prolonged periods, as corticosteroids can be absorbed into the bloodstream. Avoid applying near the eyes to prevent irritation or vision problems.

Contraindications

Cutivate is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to fluticasone or other corticosteroids. Do not use on untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections, including herpes, chickenpox, or tuberculosis of the skin.

Possible side effect

Common side effects may include mild burning, itching, dryness, or redness at the application site. Prolonged use or application to sensitive areas may cause skin thinning, stretch marks, discoloration, or increased hair growth. Rare but serious reactions include hormone imbalance or vision changes.

Drug interaction

Cutivate is generally low-risk for drug interactions when used topically. However, tell your doctor about all medications you use, especially other corticosteroids or drugs that affect the immune system.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time of the next application, skip the missed dose. Do not apply extra medication to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose

Excessive or prolonged use may lead to increased absorption, causing systemic corticosteroid effects such as hormone imbalance or skin thinning. Seek medical advice if you suspect overuse.

Storage

Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep tightly closed and out of reach of children and pets.
