Common Use
Apresoline is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and, in some cases, heart failure. It may be combined with other medicines to improve blood pressure control.
Dosage and Direction
Take Apresoline exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually 10–50 mg 4 times daily. Swallow tablets with water and follow your doctor’s schedule for best results.
Precautions
Monitor blood pressure regularly while using this medicine. Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, kidney problems, or lupus, as hydralazine may worsen these conditions.
Contraindications
Do not use Apresoline if you are allergic to hydralazine. It is also not recommended for people with severe coronary artery disease or certain heart valve problems.
Possible Side Effect
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, nausea, and rapid heartbeat. Rarely, it may cause a lupus-like syndrome, swelling, or liver problems.
Drug Interaction
Apresoline may increase the effect of other blood pressure medicines. Using it with beta-blockers or diuretics may help prevent rapid heartbeat or fluid retention.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next one and do not double the dose.
Overdose
An overdose can cause severe low blood pressure, fast heartbeat, or fainting. Seek emergency medical attention immediately if this occurs.
Storage
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
